alright, boys and girl...

this list should include the ones that were so bad that you GOT RID OF THEM, in the hopes that no-one would ever know that you'd ever had them...well, now it's time to pony up. ones that you were given as gifts don't necessarily have to count, but they do if you officially inducted them into your record collection--in other words, you didn't return it to the store, or trade it for something that was clearly better. guilty pleasures don't really belong here, but they can if you came to your senses sooner or later, and hocked it off.

i'm happy to begin with:

john denver--bought this in junior high. it was the one with him and his wife on the cover. i don't have any idea what it's called.

k.d. lang--absolute torch and twang. i thought it was hilarious in high school...but it really, really stopped being funny after a while, i was just way too embarassed by it to keep it. no record shop would buy it, so i eventually forced it onto a friend, insisting that they give it to someone as a "gag gift".

barry manilow--whatever the one was with "copacabana" on it. this was a holdover from my gran's music collection, and when i was in seventh grade i thought it was great. i got a couple more of his records as presents, but then ditched them in 9th grade.

there was also a record by spyro gyra, which was completely nauseating, if memory serves...

and, finally, there was an autographed john tesh cassette, which i liberated myself from by throwing it into lake michigan.

what else, what else?

regards,
jet.

mh, must have been this Bay City Rollers album that I bought off a school buddy sometime in the 70s (the bastard totally scammed me on this one) . Redeemed myself quickly by buying Uriah Heep's live album (which is actually not much better in hindsight).

Most embarrasing record(s) I still own and actually like? My collection of 7 Greatful Dead shows (including 5/8/77 which is close to divine) and this cheesy Coldplay album....

Sorry about that.

I went through a pretty serious 'metal' stage for a year or so...well, probably around 16-18 years of age. At that time I believe I had albums by:

Fastway
Living Color
Decapitation
Kreator
Possessed (nearly EVERY album by these guys)
Grim Reaper
Exodus
Skinny Puppy

etc.

Oddly enough, I ended up liking a lot of stuff I STILL like...while I was listening to the above. But hey, I was poor, rural Midwestern, and had no 'hip' friends. Still don't, really. When your access to information is limited, you extract entertainment from whatever you can get your greedy little mitts on, eh?

P.S. I still really, really like Possessed's first album, Grim Reaper, and even some Skinny Puppy. I might even like Fastway again...
