Fucking Bubba Ho-Tep. Man, that movie was a whole lot of fun to watch. It's one of the roughly 7 DVDs that I own. It's actually pretty bad, but you'll never forget it. The metal "music" that comes on whenever the demon(?) comes out is reason enough to watch, as is the Elvis rendition.

I didn't really like startup.com that much, and I usually like that kind of stuff. The Killing is quite good.

[namedrop] [thread hijack] Watch the extras on Bubba Hotep. You'll see my guitar player's Dad in the extras. Their family owns the company that makes the Elvis costumes for that film. I've been to the shop before, and it's very, very strange. Lots of creepy mannequins in Elvis gear leering at you. [/thread hijack] [/namedrop]

Then you should watch Time Bandits and The Killing, which are probably my favorite films by each of those directors.

Ditto for The Big Red One.

Lawrence of Arabia is also excellent.

Some other good films I've seen recently. Not on the list, but you might like them:

Meantime(1984)-Early Mike Leigh, with Phil Daniels, Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. Really great. I managed to buy this in three-pack that included Prick Up Your Ears and Made in Britain.

Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner(1962)-Gritty northern realism.

Killing of a Chinese Bookie(1976)-Classic Cassevetes.

Highway Patrolman(1992)-I think this is the best Alex Cox film. His most mature. It's also the biggest budget film ever made in Mexico. Might like if you like Repo Man.

Also Lukas Moodyson films: Together and Lilya 4-ever. The first is quite funny/feelgood and the latter is quite bleak.
