i don't know if i'd say not crap, but i'm definitely crap for liking their 'singles'

For every non-crap moment on the album, there's a distressing amount of horrible crap. Buyer's remorse? Fuck yeah. I'm going to go listen to Gang of Four and let Andy Gill's dulcet guitar wipe the memories of The Rapture from my brain.

"Echoes" is total P.I.L. rip-off stuff... So MTV... So black nail-polish... Such crap...

i dunno..."echoes" was a letdown, certainly.
but i still think the gravity "mirror" ep is very good. really, very very good.
you may still be able to check out the "alienation" mp3 on the gravity site, in fact.

still love this album. i think it's brilliant. the recording sounds so juicy i could carve it with a grapefruit-eating utensil. the vocalist is good. the songs are simple but satisfying. does this band have some horrible secret that makes everyone vote crap? i don't get it.

I'm not sure I have ever heard this band, but I thought you-all were talking about that jokey anthemic band who did the "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" song. I can only assume you are not talking about that band, as they certainly can't be accused of being a Gang of Four rip-off.

Could have sworn the name of that band was The Rapture.

Oh, it's that band.

That "House of Jealous Lovers" song is catchy in a Franz Ferdinand "Take Me Out" way, but the lil' samplings of the rest of the songs sounded -- not very good, to give these lads the benefit of the doubt (factoring in that it's first thing in the morning and I'm an old man who doesn't give a shit).

I have a question for all the people who say this band is overrated: Where do you hear hype about this band? I ask because the only place i ever hear about The Rapture is on this forum. Now, as to whether or not they are CRAP, I saw them live four or five years ago. They took a loooooong time to come out onstage, their sound sucked (trebles WAY up, almost no bass), and there was some dude dancing around playing a cowbell. WF for that song "Heaven."
