Hall and Oates "Big Bam Boom"

I owned records by pretty much every horrible 1970's corporate rock band you can imagine.

I'm not just talking about Styx and Journey and Triumph and Angel. I'm talking about the bands that made those guys sound good: New England, Little River Band, April Wine, Toto.

I was totally indiscriminate; if I song stuck in my head, I bought it. It took me a long time to develop even a vague semblance of taste, if indeed I ever did.

You'll notice that I didn't list Boston in my shameful post above. Nothin' wrong with some Boston now and again. I prefer to catch it unawares on the radio, though. While I probably have their first two records upstairs in the guest room somewhere, I can't imagine putting them on.

No, there is not. I've heard them--I saw them in concert and knew at twelve that they were bland and effete. Dennis DeYoung's songs/singing are no better or worse than Tommy Shaw's ("Renegade," anyone?).

I often find 'taste' to be a significant obstacle to my musical entertainment. Luckily, I quashed that one some time ago.

I like Styx. Saw them live a few years ago. Pretty good, and one of the most genuinely creepy audiences you will see at a live show. Yikes.
