agreed, if you're a bassplayer who never had a sneaking desire to play this, you're probably not a very good bassplayer, certainly not a very fun one.

Fuck, I'm agreeing with TDF again

I was listening to this song the other day, and thinking how awesome it is. But frankly, any song with the lines

Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent
Said my get up and go musta got up and went

has got to be a winner.

i'm not always wrong, just generally. sometimes i am right.

i always thought it was "some sweet talkin' mama..."

So did I, but when I googled the lyrics it came up with that.

I don't think Sweat Hog Mama is right, but it's so much more.... vivid and powerful.

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.

See, while I can understand how you can say they sucked for portions of said decades, you can't make a blanket statement and say that it all sucked. There were glimmers of hope. Pump held a few, Nine Lives, while being overwrought, held some as well. Just Push Play.... well, as a diehard fan, I listened to the WORLD PREMIERE of the album on the radio and was disappointed. Drum machines????? There was a little of that on NL, but nowhere near as gratuitous as on this record.

Honkin' on Bobo, while having an idiotic title (as a lot of Aerosmith records that are coming out inevitably do) and being wildly overproduced for a BLUES album... showed more promise yet.

Sad to say, but I think they do need to start doing coke again to really be Aerosmith like they should be.

Some standout Aerosmith circa '85-'00's tracks:

Done with Mirrors (1986):
"Let the Music Do the Talking" - this version is better than the Joe Perry Project's version IMO.
"My Fist, Your Face"

Permanent Vacation(1987):
"Girl Keeps Coming Apart"
"Hangman Jury"
"Magic Touch"

Pump(1989):
"Young Lust"
"F*I*N*E" - This song in particular is a force. Turn it up.
"The Other Side" - Yes, I know it's on the radio. That doesn't mean it sucks.
"What it Takes" - The best ballad they've written, which is saying a lot. "Angel", it ain't.

Get a Grip(1993):
"Eat the Rich"
"Fever" - Again, a force. The tempo kicks ass, as does the guitar tone, IMO.
"Flesh"

Nine Lives(1997):
"Nine Lives" - GET PAST THE CAT SCREAM, YES IT'S STUPID.
"Pink" - too decent of a song with mediocre lyrics.

Just Push Stop(2001):
"Sunshine"
"Light Inside"

Probably more, but I'll get to them later.

"Back in the Saddle", needs no explanation.

Back in the saddle is a great song, yes. Fantastic rock song.
As are maybe 4 or 5 other Aerosmith songs.
But I must note that recently, I tried to make a Aerosmith mix CD...I got their entire catalog off soulseek, even the rarities and b-sides and box set tracks and all that up till when they got really bad....I found that I could not come anywhere near to filling up an entire 80 minute CD with good Aerosmith songs that I'd wanna hear while driving around.
There's a few really fantastic tracks sprinkled around here and there, but the rest is just basic sloppy bar rock crap...and even the good ones I've heard so many times I just don't care anymore.

Last Child, Nobody's Fault, Back in the saddle, Sweet Emotion, Walk this way.
That's about it.

The production of this song really kills it for me. That whole album is just drenched in goofy little widgets and bad orchestration. If Aerosmith had taken the exact same song, added a smallish horn section, and recorded it in a manner that sounded like a 5 piece band with a smallish horn section it could have been a pretty good single.

Anyway, I'm going NOT CRAP on this one. Those first few albums are really good straightforward rock, then they got old and faded away to the land of adult contemporary radio and movie soundtracks.

And Sweet Emotion absolutely is the fuckin jam.

Aerosmith songs my high school rock band played:

Mama Kin, Walkin the Dog(actually a cover, but we knew it from Aerosmith), Chip Away the Stone, Sweet Emotion, Big 10 Inch Record, Seasons of Whither. I think that's it.

EDIT: oh yeah, we did Train Kept a Rollin, also a cover that we knew from the Aerosmith version.
