Ramones vs. Kraftwerk

If you chose the Birthday Party in the BP vs. JD poll, you chose the Ramones here.

If you chose Joy Division in the BP vs. JD poll, you chose Kraftwerk.

Kraftwerk was a big influence on Joy Division.

Wrong. Ramones and Joy Division.
If you choose Kraftwerk over Ramones, fine. Just a matter of taste. But its amazing how often The Ramones are bash down here.

Joey quoted me on Letterman, once. One of the finest days of my life.

Do tell...

kerble, in the Joey Ramone Games thread, wrote:I will use this forum to shamelessly bring up how Mr. Ramone quoted me.

Our drummer's cousin is in the horror punk band, the Independents. They are rawky. They have Pyro. They have a Large UFO. Their drummer at the time carried his hardware in a child's coffin. The schtick is more than compensated for by the rock. 30 minute set? Bingo! 17 songs in 28 minutes. No stops. See them live.

Anyway, my old band played a show with them at the fireside many many years back (pyro at the fireside is veeerrrry scaaaarrryyy). We played just before them and I introduced them as "the band that puts the 'fun' back in 'funeral'". They loved this.

Joey managed these guys and Evil Presley (the cousin) was his bestest buddy. He told Joey about it and he loved it as well. Evil told us that from that moment on, Joey always introduced them as "the band that puts the 'fun' back in 'funeral'" He is even quoted saying that on the Independents' site.
I even saw him say it on Letterman once.

I am very proud of this.

I have no shame.

This is my story.

I'd love to get the copy of that Letterman tape someday.

Taschenrechner and Das Modell come to mind.

The Ramones.

Like tmidgett said, I can distinctly remember hearing the Ramones for the first time, and it sounded perfect.

I love Kraftwerk as well. But they'll never be the Ramones to me.

For record I've chosen:

Fugazi over the Jesus Lizard
the Wipers over the Stooges
Joy Division over the Birthday Party
Sugar Ray as terrible as Smashmouth

I don't remember the first time I heard a Ramones record.
I do remember the first time I heard a Kraftwerk record.

If I came of age in the 70's, I'm sure I'd have the same attachment to the Ramones that all ya'll old fogies do.

If the poll were Kraftwerk v. Nirvana, I'd say Nirvana in a heartbeat, even though I almost never listen to them.

I like the Ramones just fine, but to me, they're just another great band in the pantheon of great bands. I have no emotional or developmental attachment to them.
