The world needs more Ty Segalls

Tons of output, unfortunately not tons of talent or worthwhile songs. His discography is like if you took Stephen Malkmus's ADD songwriting (which I don't mind) x 10. These songs just come off very half ass and thrown together. Sorry

DIg him. Not crap

OK... Segall's prolific and works really hard. He obviously knows his way around a lot of instruments, or at least enough to more than get by, which is better than I can say. The word from people I know and trust who are friends with him is that he's a good, standup guy. And he's doing well for himself. I genuinely commend him for those things.But the refried garage aesthetic that he and thousands of other people are flogging does almost nothing for me. Maybe if I was friends with him I'd feel differently, but as it is it's in one ear and out the other for me. When he really lets himself go it can be okay, but people who dared compare Slaughterhouse to Fun House (as Pitchfork actually did) need to go listen to Fun House again - preferably for three days while locked in a closet.It's just too clean and controlled, even Slaughterhouse. I never feel like he's taking real risks. But this is pretty clearly my problem.

saw him at Porto Primavera without knowing anything about him. as people have said, the live show was super fun. i was dead tired (he was basically the last act of the festival) but i just had to jump around. the music itself is pretty dumb tho, i don't think i'll ever grab it while there's so much better stuff out there

just got the Manipulator record. so far i'm loving it.

Have tried to get into his stuff and just can't, the songs do nothing for me. I've listened to Goodbye Bread and Slaughterhouse. Crap. I do admire his prolific tendencies, though, so, a few waffles for that.

Nothing by Ty Segall or any of his groups really grabbed me until I heard Ty Segall Band - Live In San Francisco, which was released on Castle Face last year. It's a fun, raw, extremely well captured performance. I would highly recommend this album. The Live In San Francisco series in general is fantastic. The Blind Shake's release is a powerhouse.

The album he did with FM steve is his best record to date - at least in my opinion.It is not crap.

Heard the new single which reportedly features Ty and FM steve destroying a toilet. It's pretty good.
