I've long believed that theft is not a crime in rock and roll, or pop music in general. If pieces of something else makes something new and vital, then so be it. There are so many examples of a lifted riff, groove, vocal melody that it's fun to point them out. The formula being this song ____ is based on ____ that song.

Yeah, the one on Strawberries. It's interesting because the overall mood of the Damned song is closer, but the chorus effect and the actual notes of the KJ song is more like the Nirvana riff. In fact, I think KJ couldn't be accused as borrowing as much from the Damned, as Nirvana did from them.

I've always detected a kinship between these two





Erstwhile FM Dr. Venkman/Houlihan once texted me that he found a striking similarity between "Christmas at the Zoo" and a country tune that I'm just having the dickens of a time recalling the name. It was a blatant ripoff, actually. Love old Lips, but they did a whole lot of stealin'.
