There's been two occasions in my life where I was crushed by the sadness of a song and listened to it over and over for hours.

Those two are "Sad Lisa" by Cat Stevens and "Breathe Me" by Sia.

Funny, I've never considered that song to be "sad"... but I really never paid attention to the lyrics!

Sadness I normally detect by the instruments, the melody... not being a native english speaker surely has something to do with it.

It's the way the Hammond slowly begins to bloom at the start of "all the stars will all glow bright" plus the morose croon of the backing vocals that gives it an atmosphere of sadness for me. The lyrics read quite triumphant, though. It's a curious thing! Beautiful song.
