Re: Massively Underrated Stuff.
34Quietness and stillness are definitely underrated, especially in the smartphone era of constant distractions.
Laziness, however, is okay to a point and then sucks after that. Truly lazy people are a burden to everyone else. And personally speaking, if I’m lazy for too long, it makes me feel depressed and anxious: I could have done something fulfilling, but instead I frittered away time on stuff that didn’t leave me satisfied at all.
Oddly, the people I know who complain the most about their own laziness are never actually lazy. Genuinely lazy people complain about everyone else riding them.

36Insofar as a person can be "stuff", Roy Orbison. I know he was celebrated during his life, but I rarely hear anyone referencing his total coolness and excellence nowadays.

38Agreed, who knew that Sun records invented emo. For anyone unfamiliar, or on the fence I can recommend the concert film Black and White Night, which avoids the stuffy "tribute show" pitfalls because: Orbison is awesome, the superstars keep their egos in check. TCB band w/James Burton, and T-Bone Burnett de-ELO's the arrangements. (Actually I don't mind the Jeff Lynd re-recordings).A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:40 amGood shout. Re: Massively Underrated Stuff.
39Best part of that show is Burton taking a solo in Ooby Dooby and doing some very James Burton guitar things. Then Roy and James look over to the Boss and he just boinks out the saddest little solo.... I wouldn't wanna take solo 2 after James Fuckin Burton.
Re: Massively Underrated Stuff.
40"Doing nothing" is more appealing, in my experience, when it's not just "dicking around"/general listlessness (checking social media feeds all day, reading/sending emails, channel flipping, visiting websites, etc). If anything, I think the point is to make your mind wander less, to unplug and decompress, and not get caught up in this or that. To whittle things away, even if you're not meditating or "practicing mindfulness."
I've had a busy past six months and when I didn't have the luxury of being able to "do nothing," I would often just listen to atmospheric electronic music. Seemed to help.
