I would say Korn are a titan of rock. As important, instinctive and innovative as Black Sabbath. A totally new band language played out over their first 6 albums.

Also: Deftones > Slipknot

Right! The whole genre is regrettable as fuck. It's humiliating, really. Korn is only good in this context. And they're more funny than good. All the bands that have been mentioned in this thread taught me a lot about how not to be.

With that being said, please love the Deftones! Someone must!

They put on a good show. I’ve seen them at a few “special” shows in mid sized venues. Robert Smith invited them to Meltdown festival when he curated in 2018. They played the Royal Festival Hall. It was pretty damn good. It was a fairly niche set and included stuff of S/T and Saturday Night Wrist.

I’m kind of done with them but the times I’ve seen them they “brang it”.

Apparently they brang it harder than The Mars Volta that night, who reportedly only played "slow booty jams" according to my drummer
Escape Rope / Black Mesa / Inflatable Sex Babies

Actually the drummer is pretty great, the king of ghost notes.

I dunno, like a few other bands that are very intermittently great, RHCP, Green Day etc they do open doors for kids to a wider world of music. I stopped listening to RHCP 30 years ago but through their constant pushing of artists they loved I discovered a world of art I’d never imagined. Eric Dolphy, Captain Beefheart, Zappa, The Germs… honestly the list is massive.

I think there’s something to be said for mainstream-ish alt rock bands that are gateways to a much deeper world.

I feel a thread coming on.
