My current favorite pair of running shorts came from CostCo of all places. They're Adidas branded. I like them. They were like $15.

The googles tells me that the best beginner boxing shoe is the Adidas Combat Speed. Comes in a bunch of wild colors. Pardon the Amazon link, but here's what I found:

A huge part of boxing is aerobic conditioning. You might want to also consider a running shoe because you're gonna want something with some cushion since you're going to be jumping a lot of rope. I think what runners call "race day shoes" will probably be good, because they will be crazy light and have a bunch of squish. ONLY WEAR THEM FOR TRAINING. They will be expensive unless you get factory seconds or shoes someone only wore a few times and returned. That squish packs down and you lose all of the advantages of having it, eventually.

There's no downside to going to a full-service running shoe store where they have the treadmill and all that, and they film your feet running and do an analysis.

Fleet Feet offers this service at a bunch of locations:

I roll my feet to the outside when I run, so I get shoes that are stiffer on the outside edge. I found this out by going to this place in Athens that does the full gait analysis. It cost me a little extra to get the first pair of shoes, but now I have an automated google thingy that lets me know when they're on sale or when Brooks has a pair in their clearance thing.

I started the One Minute Plank (self created) Six month challenge today. Evidently it's one of the best simple life hacks you can do.

Yo yo yo

I came out of a gnarly depression last month that took away my appetite, and I took the opportunity to completely switch up my diet. Now I eat mostly raw and fermented vegetables, except for squash which I lightly stir-fry. No bready shit, no meat except Omega-3-rich fish, no processed food, no sweets, no artificial crap except the occasional energy drink when life is especially demanding. My guts are still not used to it so I gotta blow ass as soon as I eat, but it's a price I can afford to pay. Cherry tomatoes brought me out of my depression, no joke. They're like little balloons of sunshine. And man I love olives. I'm making my own sauerkraut. I eat sprouts with ginger dressing like it's birthday cake. Feels good man.

Exercise is a whole other challenge. I used to take Kratom for my knee injury and the arthritis that's spreading throughout my body, but I feel like it sapped me of dopamine and serotonin so I quit cold turkey while I was in the depression. It made the mood disorder worse for a bit but then much better. Now everything fucking hurts! I try to take a walk every day but everything fucking hurts. I can't do high impact exercise anyway due to the very fucked knee situation, but even if I wanted to I couldn't because everything fucking hurts! Everything fucking hurts. But I don't feel bad about it any more. Just gonna keep eating these salads and fruits and nuts and hope I can get down to a weight that will make harder exercise easier.

Have you tried water running? It's easy on the joints and can be effective. Downside: it's boring and doesn't quite feel like working out. All you need is a body of water where to submerge and a water running belt, a floating device. Some use special shoes, but they are not requiered.

I should do this as well.

I've lost 33 pounds since last Christmas just by working. I'm on my feet most of the day. I don't have opportunities to stuff my face with food or sweets. I mostly eat cottage cheese and chicken soup at lunch.
I also ate a lot of satsumas when they were in season. That helped a lot with the cravings.
I'm also in therapy where I noticed some unhealthy connections with eating, so it's now easier to recognize when I'm having difficult feelings that I need to deal with instead of eating a fuck ton of sweets.
I need to to drop at least another 30 pounds, but preferably like 60 pounds. I think I've plateued here, so I have to start exercising. Probably that water running I mentioned in above post. I tried Nordic walking but I overdid it and hurt my Achilles tendon. It's been few years and it still hurts time to time.

I lifted 270 on the incline bench the other day. I picked it up and put it down thee times.

I've been lifting since January, doing circuit sets of three sets of 15 reps each, three days a week. Someone once told me that long sets with lots of reps, then resting and repeating it was the path to being really strong.

I'm stronger than I've ever been, right now.

I've also been doing 20 miles on the bike before work a few days a week. I'm losing a little weight but retaining a lot of muscle.

I sleep like a teenager, though. Nine hours s night feels about right, which is challenging considering my many obligations. My mood, though, is just right.

No, not really. But lifting will make you stronger than an average person, or an untrained one.

Low reps with maximum weight will make you stronger per se, higher volumes tend to favor muscle growth.

Yeah, 4-6 reps with only 1 or 2 left in the tank is the range I often see. I haven't looked much into numbers but emphasis on technique with the deepest stretch possible will break down (and rebuild) the most muscle fibers. Plus I just appreciate the efficiency of shorter sets.

I started going to a boulder gym a few months back so now a lot of my training is built around that. My eventual goal is to do one arm pullups (or hangboard pullups from the fingertips!) but I got a ways to go.
