I do LOVE modern adaptive cruise. A godsend for those of us whose main driving nowadays is roadtrips.
I have that on my 2017 Subaru Outback and I really do like it, mostly because it actually works.
It works better than all their other EyeSight "features", in fact it might be the only one that works. Every single time I leave my house I have to disable the reverse automatic braking because it thinks the slight dip at the end of my driveway is a threat and will violently slam on the brakes. Every time. Doesn't matter how slow I go. All the collision-prevention shit goes off after I've already seen what's happening and hit the brakes myself; so it just beeps and blinks lights on the dash to distract me while I'm trying to concentrate on driving.
This crap runs on cameras that rely on being calibrated with the windshield.....so if you get a crack and need to have the windshield replaced it's over $1,000 instead of a few hundred. I learned this first-hand.....if you have any of this stuff and get a chip in your windshield, get the chip fixed ASAP so it doesn't turn into a bigger crack needing a full replacement.
My assumption is this is all because backup cameras became mandatory in the US....which is fine, a backup camera is practical and useful. But auto manufacturers quickly made that backup cam one big dumb touchscreen, forcing you to look away from the road for any adjustments that could normally be done via tactile controls. Add in a bunch of cameras, R&D and bullshit tech, with all those costs passed onto the consumer.
Other than that, the car parts of my car I like. It runs well, the seats are comfy on long drives. I just want buttons & knobs damn it.
